I've researched ALL the records in the US - civil & church, marriage, census, property, death as well as those of his descendants & in laws for any leads but unable to determine specific town where he originated. The most that I have been able to do is narrow down region to Alsace Lorraine which is a territory that has switched hands between Germany & France many times historically. Since I have exhausted all leads here in America, I was trying another angle.
