Hi Taryn, I have reasons to believe that this Johannes Kristenson is not the right one, sorry for your effort!
The correct one is probably "Johannes Broedset" (norwegian slashed o), who left Kristiansund April 5. 1893. His last name is probably misspelled, as this place does not exist in Aure, and should have been "Bradset".
It looks like he is travelling with a family, probably relatives, as his grandmother comes from "Botten" as well. I think I have found them in the passenger lists of the ship OREGON, arriving in Halifax April 24. 1893 (page 4). (www. collectionscanada.gc.ga).
The norwegian emigration protocols tells us they were going to Dakota. I know that Johannes never married and went back to Norway in 1947, but it would be interesting to find out if any of the four children born in Norway established families in North America.
They are Hanna (1882), Hans (1888), Johannes (1891) and Gunhild (1892). In the manifest it looks they have written "Botten" as their last name.
