Where is the actual list?

I have the family #, microfilm #, and microfilm roll # for my gg grandfathers arrival in NY in 1840, but all I keep getting is the generic description of his arrival record. Can I access the actual record somewhere? He was 10 years old when he came over. Thanks. Ed
