Reason for Immigration to Ireland from France
I'm Irish and have grown up all me life in Ireland. But in our family tree my great-grannys grand mother came from France. This would have been around the 19th century sometime. My great granny was born in 1910, so I'd guess her granny was born around 1850 give or take.
Why would she have left France to come to Ireland? Ireland is a country that people leave, not come to. Especially around that time, there would have been no reason for her to want to come here, so why would she leave France first of all, and how would it be she ended up in Ireland of all places?
Did something happen in France around then?
I thought maybe that she was going to Canada and that the boat docked in Ireland on the way, like many boats. But I don't know if that would make sense? The only boats I ever heard of docking went to Canada and America, but were English.
Any one who knows anything about this time that can make sense of this reason to come to Ireland, would be much appreciated if you could share it wit us...
Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
