Thanks Mary, Now where do I find info like what ship he arrived on in 1885 ? I am trying to find out his parents' names but am having no luck as all the papers I am finding like from the funeral home, his death certificate, basically any paperwork lists his parents as unknown. this is weird ! On his Petition For Naturlization...the date on it is Dec. 1, 1939 where the affidavit of witnesses signed saying they have known him as living in Crawford County, Ohio. I have also found the marriage certificates for both his marriages. Do you have any ideas as to where I can find his parents' names ? They would almost have to be from Germany. On one ships list I have him coming over from Germany with his daughter-in-law ( Anna Marie Hornavius ) who married his son Carlos Jay on Oct 12, 1948. It also lists him as divorced and having all these kids....Harold b.dec 14, 1899 Ferris b nov 6,1901 Hazel H Powers b.jan 6, 1903, carlos b june 14,1914 and so on.. it says he arrived from Hamburg to NY 1873 on ship ( not known) and int. November 15, 1939.
