William, You've probably already seen these, but I'll pass them on anyways: Mobile County marriage records Eliza Devoy to Charles E. Felthain, license date June 5, 1867 Margaret Devoy to Frank Sanchez, license date Dec 22, 1859 Sarah Devoy to Raove [sic] Carre, license date July 20, 1865 As these are the dates that the license was issued, you'd have to check with the Mobile Probate Court for a copy of the actual record. Since Margaret was 17, it (may) have the name of a parent giving permission. Worth a shot. Their address is Probate Court of Mobile County Post Office Box 7 Mobile, AL 36601 I suspect that this Sarah Devoy is the 55 yr old shown with R. Carre in the 1870 Mobile Census, but there's also a teenaged Sarah and Eliza Devoy in the 1860 Mobile census. Both were Irish. I wonder if they are siblings of your Margaret? It looks like there is a death certificate for Margaret Sanchez in 1894. You may have already checked, but it may give the names of her parents on it. It would either be on file at the State Health Dept or the Escambia County Health Department. Mobile has excellent records available for this time period. While I didn't find much on the James Devoy that you mentioned, I do see that he was born c1814 in Ireland and was living in Mobile in 1850. It's a long shot, but you might check with the Mobile County Probate Court and see if they have any estate records for this man that may name his heirs, if any. Ditto for the Sarah Devoy Carre in case she was the remarried mother. Lastly, post your query on the Mobile County board as I've had good success with researchers kind enough to check records for me at the Mobile Genealogical Society library. You never know what might turn up. Good luck, Scott Notify Administrator about this message?
