Joyce,

FYI New York was the port. And Ellis Island was an immigrant processing station that did not come into use until 1892...

Here is the info the arrival at the Port of NY, Castle Garden was used at the time of his arrival for immigrant processing

Name: Erick Steuer
Arrival Date: 15 Apr 1889
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1866
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Hamburg, Germany and Le Havre, France
Destination: Illinois
Place of Origin: Prussia
Nationality: Prussian (Race German)
Ship Name: Suevia
Destination Illinois

The town he is from is not very legible... and that is the only info on that manifest that is of interest.

There are several Otto's arriving but none on the Bremen in 1869
