Consider that the passenger list was probably made by someone who din't speak German, so he wrote what he heard. The surname Reinhard for example is there written as Rynhart.
Your ancestor is from the Palatinate which did belong to Bavaria at that time, but was not adjoining the Bavarian motherland. It's part of the German state Rheinland-Pfalz today (Rhineland-Palatinate).
The form "Gek" is very rare in Germany today. More probably is that he was written originally "Geck", which is to find a lot in Bavaria and Western Germany.
