He came to the US in 1883 to avoid being killed in the Prussian war as his six older brothers were. His parents were Michael and Anna. His death certificate from Detroit Michigan of February 17, 1921 does not show a city in Germany where he was born. Does this help you any? Do you know if the name was ever any longer than just "Imm"? I have also found it spelled "Emm" too.
