Roberta,
Your info on Elizabeth "Betsey" Iams is the same as Ralph Reynolds has on his pp. 243 and 244.(Perhaps you wrote that part??) There are at least two problems with this theory.First, I have not encountered any mention of her as being nicknamed "Betsey" in Hill family materials.Second, the official record in Ritchie County of her death indicates that she was born in 1802.Since she died in 1886, she was either 84 or 69 when she died.I have seen a late life photo reproduction of her, and she was either much older than 69 or she had led a very hard life. Also, I would think that someone would have challenged an estimate of her age that was so much in error. Her son Thomas didn't die until 1897, and I would think he would know whether his mother was 16 when he was born (somewhat "remarkably" young) or 31 (somewhat "remarkably" old) for a first child at that time.I just have a hard time with this association, and that is one of the reasons for the mystery.
Can you share the sources you may have for the info you sent today? Thanks.Chris
