Hi Rosemary, I have alway thought that the birth place of Thomas as SC was a little off. Some of the other siblings indicate that they were born in 'Old Virginia' which would indicate that these counties could very well be those areas that we call West Virginia. If you look at the map of West Virginia, it runs along the southern part of Pennsylvania and comes up around the southwest corner of the western part of Penn.
I have been trying to find records of the Pennsylvania line and the Maryland line during the Revolutionary War.Unfortunately, for us, the census taken in
1840 also addresses those individuals, living, who were in the Rev. War.Most of the states have records for this period but only if the individual was living and/or the spouse was drawing a pension.I believe that Thomas's father came either Greene/Washington Co., Penn., Bedford Co., Pa. or from Alleghany Co., Md.After the French & Indian war, the people started coming from Maryland across the mountains to settle in some of the above mentioned counties.
