Hi,
My Mom was raised by a wonderful woman named Florence Ilsley. They lived in Amesbury Massachusettes but I know that she came from Middle River on Cape Breton. Her maiden name was Nicholson and she was married to a man my mother always called "Daddy Ralf"(Ralf Ilsley?). I never knew if he too was from Nova Scotia but it would make sense if they had married and came south together. If he came from somewhere close to where she lived then he must have lived in the area around Baddeck. Florence (we called her Diddy) had Gaelic roots and she lived to be over 104 years old. Daddy Ralf Ilsley died before I knew him which puts it some time before the mid 1960s. I am intrigued by That little area up there. The land is beautiful and rugged and the Gaelic people who settled there seem to be that way too.
