It is probable that your Henry born in 1846 in Basingstoke was in fact the brother of my g/grandfather Thomas. I've looked at what records I have and have come up with the following information.

1838 Henry Ilsley married Anne Fisher 20 Jun 1838 at
Basingstoke
1838 Thomas baptised 8 Jul 1838 at Basingstoke
1840 William born, baptism not known
1841 Basingstoke Census
family lived in Water Lane, Basingstoke
1843 George baptised 16 Jun 1843 at Basingstoke, I listed
the mother's name as Mary but this may be a mistake
1846 Henry baptised 27 Aug 1846 at Basingstoke
1849 Arthur baptised 7 Oct 1849 at Old Basing and was
buried 13 Oct 1849 at the same place
Henry (the father) buried 31 Dec 1849 at Old Basing
aged 37
1851 No trace of Anne in Basingstoke or Old Basing in the
census
Thomas aged 13 was a servant at Caufauld Farm
William aged 9 and Henry aged 7 were in the workhouse
but no clue if these were Henry and Anne's children
1861 Nothing in the Basingstoke or Old Basing census
1871 Nothing in the Basingstoke or Old Basing census
1875 William George baptised 29 Sep 1875 in Basingstoke
1878 Willie baptised 25 Apr 1878 in Basingstoke
(Basingstoke registers not checked after this)
1881 census not checked
1891 census showed Henry aged 45 and Mary aged 43 living
4 Bunyan Place in Basingstoke, children were,
Harriett aged 20 born in Worting
John aged 17 born in Worting, groom
Will aged 13 born in Basingstoke
Thomas aged 5 born in Basingstoke, scholar
1900 Henry Ilsley aged 55 was buried - date not known yet

To get more details I will need to look at the later Basingstoke registers, plus the Worting ones and maybe also Oakley which is where Mary was born. If this Henry is the correct one - and I can see no other likely baptisms - then I do have the family line that goes back to the mid 16th century, and possible one further generation back as well. Some of this is from my own research but a lot comes from other people. I hope this heklps you out.

Roy
