I have just come across the Illsley forum and this listing caught my eye. I come from Blackfordby and my G Grandmother was an Illsley so I thought it was worth sharing some of the information I know (allow a bit of leeway with the dates). My G Grandmother's name was Hannah Illsley (before she married Thomas Tivey in 1901) and she was born in 1881 in Blackfordby. Her parents were George Illsley (b 1852, Blackfordby) and Mary Ann Finch (b 1852, Moira). As far as I know Hannah had two sisters - Gertrude Mary (b 1884) and Ann who died young, and one brother Harry (b 1874). Harry emigrated to Canada in around 1901 and my family still keep in contact with his descendents. Gertrude got married in 1903 and went to live somewhere in Derbyshire. George Illsley's parents were William Illsley (b 1823) and Ann (b 1824, Overseal). George had several brothers and sisters - Henry (b 1857), William (b 1843), Samuel (b 1855), Benjamin (b 1850), Maria (b 1844), Catherine (b 1853), Hannah (b 1860), Joseph (b 1863), John (b 1866) and Thomas (b 1868). William Illsley's (b 1823) parents were Gilbert Illsley (b 1791, Church Gresley) and Hannah (b ?, Polesworth, Warwks). All I know is that William had one sister Maria (b 1826) and haven't been able to trace any further than that. I was interested to read in other postings that John used the name Jasper. My great aunt often talks of Jasper Illsley but of course this name does not appear in the census returns so I was not able to link the two names together until now. I know the Illsleys have been long associated with Blackfordby and in particular the local cricket team during the early to mid C20. I hope this information is of use.
