An Iliff cousin provided the 1870 and 1880 federal census for Morgan County, Missouri, which show that my great grandmother Adliza Iliff, who married John Wesley Gerlt, was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Shoemaker) and resided with them in those years.

There was a daughter Helen in the 1870 census age 20 (circa 1850) who was born in Indiana and is believed to have been by a prior wife because of the relative ages between Helen and Elizabeth. Have no other information.

Thomas and Elizabeth probably moved their family from Kentucky to Missouri in the spring or summer of 1870.

According to both census Thomas was born about 1824 in Kentucky and according to the 1880 census his father and mother were also born in Kentucky.

Trying to connect Thomas to his daughter Helen and former wife in Indiana. Any hits?
