Brittany, One Pennsylvania branch of the Illig Family is descended from Andrew Illig. Andrew Illig, although German, came to this country from France. Most people think he came from Aachen Germany, but according to his will he came from Achen France. Achen is a small village in Lorraine (920 inhabitants today), Andrew Illig had two sons who remained in Achen when he came to America, there are 7 Illig families descended from these sons still living in Achen today. The mail street of the village is "Commodant Blase Illig Street," named after one of his great grandsons.
