I guess the spelling of "Iley" has been difficult for many people over the years. I found in the Noxubee County (Mississippi) 1850 Census that Iley Watson Fant was spelled "Jolly" Fant. He was the son of Preston Samuel Fant, Sr. and Mary Watson "Polly" Joiner. He was born ca. 1838. He is my second great-uncle.

My 1st cousin 3 times removed was listed on the 1870 Noxubee Census as "Eiland" Fant. He was the son of Preston Samuel Fant, Sr. and Aquilla.

My brother, Iley, said his name has been spelled many ways over the years. The most creative was "Daisy."

Maybe there is a hint somewhere in here about where we got the name "Iley." I continue to search.

Clarissa
