Re: Iley family in North Carolina. My great uncle was named Iley White Pearsall. He was born in Duplin County, North Carolina, and the naming practice of his family was to use a family surname as a first and/or middle name.
The Iley's married into the local Indian tribe at the time, back in the 1700s and mid-1800s. This was the Creek nation which later folded into the Cherokees.
Hepsebeth Caple married Richard Iley (b.1818 in SC) on Feb. 24, 1841 in TN. His father, Richard Iley (b.1771 in GA) married Fereby Inman who some say is related to Pocahontos. The son of Caple and Richard was William Iley, who married Mary Unk, another Indian. Do you know all this? Other surnames connected to the Iley family are McClatchey and White, mixed bloods.
I assume you have seen the book by Volney and Edwena Iley Acheson entitled "Richard Iley and 3200 Descendants." It is in the Waco-McClennan County Library in Waco, Texas. There may be a few other libraries that carry it, but not many.
Hope this helps and that you don't already know all of this.
