Can I stick my tuppence worth in?? My GGGGGFather was Henry Iley - brother of the James Iley who married Elizabeth Dixon. From the work that's been done on my Iley ancestry, I'd like to add a couple of comments (and hope they're correct and useful!!) --
1. Prior to Elizabeth Iley (the daughter of Thomas and Eleanor) we believe that there was two sons (twins):
David Peter and James Alexander - born 20 July 1837 - bap. 13 Aug 1837. James died 14 Feb 1838 (PRO Sland XXIV 194) buried 18 Feb. and David died 23 Jun 1839 (PRO Sland XXIV 387) and was buried 26 Jun.
2. Thomas Iley (son of Thomas and Eleanor) was born 24 Dec 1842, bap 5 Feb 1843, and died 6 Jul 1847 - bur. 9 Jul.
3. James Iley (son of Thomas and Eleanor) was born 7 Jan. 1840, bap. 23 Feb 1840 and died of cholera on 21 Sep 1849 - bur 22 Sep.
4. Thomas Blenkinsop Iley - born 1852 - was the son of Thomas Blenkinsop and Mary Iley. Mary was the daughter of George Iley who was the son of Henry Iley (my GGGGGFather). Thomas's civil registration (PRO Sland 10a 313) was T.B.Iley (born 4 Feb 1852) but his parish registration was for Thomas Blenkinsop. His parents (Thomas and Mary) didn't marry until 30 Sep 1853 and I suspect this is why he had two different names!! He is certainly Thomas Blenkinsop in the 1861 census of 11 Burleigh Street, Sland.
5. The Thomas Iley of Thomas Iley and Isabella Tongs fame wasn't the 1842 Thomas, but Mary Iley's brother born 20 May 1834.

Have a look at www.brendale.demon.co.uk - it might make things a lot clearer than I've been able to !!!!

Lee
