Jay Lansing French, shoe store in Rockford, early 1860s

Family story was that Jay Lansing French (my gg grandfather) set up a shoe store at Rockford, Illinois, where his brother Schuyler was (after leaving Springfield, Missouri where his store was looted during the Civil War circa 1861, and then spending some time in New York at another brother Alonzo's).

My mother and I recently found a photo that was taken in Rockford, Illinois (we had not taken it out of its frame before) of Jay Lansing French and his son.

I am hoping that someone might have some knowledge of this.

Thanks!
