Found these deaths in the Illinois Death Index 1916-1950:
Hoover, Clark E. age 79 certificate #0000420 d. 5-23-1942 Winnebago County/Rockford
Hoover, Lillian age 67 certificate # 0018083 d. 4-7-1935
Winnebago County, Rockford
The death records would give Lillian's maiden name and the place of burial for them. You might try contacting the Rockford Public Library; since you have dates of death, they might be able to help find obituaries in old newspapers on microfilm, or direct you to the genealogical society for help.
