The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa

CARRIE M. MCCARTIN (nee SMITH) was born in Seward, Winnebago County, Ill., on December 12, 1879, and died March 7, 1907, at the age of 28 years, 2
months and 26 days. MRS. MCCARTIN lived in the city of her birth until about
a year ago, when with her husband and children she moved on a farm about
nine miles south of Chariton, where she died after only a short illness with
pneumonia.
She was married to MR. MCCARTIN about eight years ago. To them were born
three children, all very young yet, the youngest was but a babe a day old
when the mother died. Besides these children and her husband there were two
brothers, one sister and the father to mourn her loss, her mother having
preceded her to the glory world nearly a year ago. In her brief sojourn in
the vicinity in which she lived she had found and made a host of friends who
miss her greatly and who enter into deep sympathy with those who have lost
her out of the family circle. The departed one believed and trusted in the
Lord here, and hence we are assured that she has gone to be with Him forever
The funeral services were conducted from the house Saturday at one o'clock
by Rev. J.H. Yaggy, of the United Brethren Church, after which the body was
taken to Leaf River, Ill., thence on a sixteen mile drive overland to burial
in Winnebago Cemetery.
