That's exactly my problem. Since Grace was born in 1831 she would have been about 19 years old in 1850. She also married James Tibbs between 1850 - 1855 due to their son Thomas H. Tibbs' birth in 1856.
James Whitson was born abt 2 Apr 1826 which would make him about 5 years old when his supposed daughter Grace Jane Whitson was born. I think this should eliminate James as her father. James did have a daughter Grace born abt 1849 in Jackson Co., Tenn.
The 1850 Wayne Co. Federal Census District 11 shows a J. Whitson age 53 Tenn, C. Whitson female, age 18 Ky, and L. Whitson male age 8 ILL. The question is this...Is the "C. Whitson" really Grace and "J. Whitson" John Whitson who was married to Grace Rush?
Since Grace died 24 Nov. 1915 in Wayne county I'm wondering if there is a death certificate which may help to solve this mystery???
