The local newspaper did generally cover such news. Years ago, members of the local genealogy society gleaned the microfilms for such information and published them in two books (something like 1846-1855 and 1855-1865). However, John was not found in their listing. There are a lot of possibilities - they missed it, the microfilm was unreadable, the original paper was missing, or it was never covered in the paper. Is there something in particular you were looking to find?
