A family tree at Ancestry.com has Jeremiah married to Susan CANARIUM b. PA d. 17 March 1878 in Cold Spring Twp., Shelby County, IL
parents: John KANARAM b. 1817 Elisabeth Cocannouer
b. 1821 d. 1899 Elisabeth lived in Holland, Shelby County, IL in 1870.

The Colonys may have been from Knox County, OH; there is a Henry J. Colony b. 25 March 1844 in Knox County, OH, who served from Shelby County, IL in the Civil War; Co B 7 IL INF. He married Mary Ann Miller, 22 September 1877 in Shelby County, Mary Miller Colony died 27 January 1886. Henry J. Miller died at the home of his daughter, Clara May Colony Haines on 21 January 1911 near Cowden, Shelby County, IL. He is buried next to his daughter in the Mound Cemetery, Dry Point Twp., Cowden. He appears to have married 1st, Catharine Mize in Shelby County 1867.

There are two female Colonys in the 1860 census who may be sisters of Jeremiah and/or Henry:
Shelby County, IL
Lucinda Colony age 11 b. IL [1849] Dry Point Twp.
living with: William Banning age 44 b. KY
and his wife Jane E. Banning age 44 b. TN and family

Emma Colney age 18 b. IL [1842] Holland Twp.
living with John Leathers age 49 b. OH
and his wife Margaret age 45 b. PA

An Elisha Colony was a purchaser at the estate of Alexander Banning in Shelby County in 1848.

1840 Shelby County, IL
Elisha Colony 1 male under 5
1 male 5-10 Jeremiah E. 7?
1 male 20-30 Elisha md. 1832/8 years
1 female under 5
1 female 15-20 ?
next door:
Jacob Nye 1 male 70-80 Jacob
1 female 10-15
1 female 40-50

From the IGI at FamilySearch:
Elisha Colony to Elizabeth Noy 8 July 1832 Knox County, OH
Could this be Jeremiah's parents? Jeremiah "E." Colony was born ca 1833 in OH.

I cannot find any of the Colonys in Shelby County or anywhere in 1850 on Ancesty.com. I am sure there is some kind of error, as Jeremiah is marrying there in 1855. I would advise checking probate for Jeremiah, Elisha, Jacob Nye, etc. There are no graves for any of your Colonys that I can find and I think I have all the cemetery books. I am not surprised, Jeremiah probably died ca 1872 or so, Ida appears to be the last child. Jeremiah would have left a young family and money would have been scarce to have spent on a tombstone. Likewise, Susannah is gone in 1878, the kids are all staying with other families, and money would not have been available to buy their mother a tombstone.

I hope that this new information will help you find Ida's family!
Regards,
Barbara
