Update: I managed to visit Shelby County on Friday (I'd been in Ohio since that Wed night visiting family) and poured through the guardianship records as well as the probate, administrator's records, chancery court records and the criminal dockets. I even looked at the insanity dockets! It seems like I looked in every book in that room! I was told personal property records were over at the Genealogical Society so my daughter and I walked across the street, only to discover that the building was only open on Wed and Sat. I was scheduled to travel back home to Texas on Saturday so I knew I couldn't make another trip back. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I would gladly pay someone to look over those personal property tax records from the years 1861-1870 for my Samuel and Sarah (Gaddis) Browning. I don't anticipate being able to make another trip back for at least a couple years and it would be such a help to me. If someone is willing to do this or can put me in touch with someone who would, I would be very grateful. Thanks to all for your help so far. Notify Administrator about this message?
