Hi Susan,
Sorry to be so long getting back to you. I've been digging around for more information over the weekend and see Eileen's response to you has one of the same things I found :-) What I have managed to discover is that the Reynolds in Warren County which have a Charles B. in 1850, a shoemaker aged 22 [b. ca 1828] have connections back to the Hart County Reynolds and back through the Barren County Reynolds. The Thomas Reynolds in Shelby County, IL, was in Hardin County, Kentucky in 1850 and before that connects to Hart and Barren County. So Charles B. may have gone to Shelby County in the 1850's because he had family there. Since we know he was born in Hart County, he is definitely related in some way to that Thomas Reynolds, although not necessarily his child. I don't think at this point that the 'Ireland' place of birth for his father in the 1910 census is correct. Those Reynolds' in Hart County go back to an old Virginia family and there don't appear to be any from Ireland in the Hart County area.

I'm glad Eileen is more up to date on the National Archives pricing, and I agree that what used to take up to 4 months to get a file, would now take only 3 weeks if they are charging $75! Wow. I have no idea what my researcher is now charging, but he will provide a partial file at a lesser charge than what the NA is charging, because they will only copy a complete file to my knowledge. Michael was charging $40 for a complete file and $28 for an abbreviated file. I still advise trying again for the file since we are having trouble locating Charles between 1870 and 1900. That's a long time! I have spent a considerable amount of time looking for them in 1880 and have not found them. Even searching with first names only and birth years, plus or minus 5 years. Either they were missed completely, or all of their names and ages are way off.

Did you say you were descended from William Edward Reynolds? What can you tell me about him, birth date, places he lived, marriage? I found one mention of Oscar on the IGI: Oscar Elijah Reynolds, b 1868, of Nashville, Washington County, Illinois, parents Charles Reynolds and "Elizabeth" Wilson. I did find Eliza Ann Wilson's family and her father is named Thomas. So they may have just named that eldest son after Thomas Wilson.

I checked the Shelby County Cemetery books and found no burials for Charles, Eliza or any of the children. Appears they moved on from there after 1870 sometime. But where?
I really looked hard for them in 1880 and no luck. Let me know what you already have in terms of where they may have lived and I'll keep looking. Do you know where William Edward said he was born?

Barb
