Jim - Thanks for your response. The date of April 6, 1809 comes from the biography of William F. Herrin that was published in the 1904 History of Sangamon County, IL. I believe that James might be the brother of Azariah because both of them came from Harrison County, KY and both were orphans. Do you know who the father is of James.

Also, I have a George Herring born in 1793 in Harrison County, KY that was married to Elizabeth Riley (born in 1796) and they came to Indiana. I am trying to connect an Azariah Herring (born 1820 in Harrison County) and married to a Eleanor Beasley in Hendricks County, IN. Have you come across them in your research? I originally thought that this Azariah was the Azariah who I believe is the brother of your James but he isn't.
