Richard Sponsler
Posting this to help those researching the Sponslers from this area. Recently found the following through research done in Tuscarawas County Ohio. According to the estate administration date, William Sponsler died on or before Nov. 21, 1848. The estate administration records show the following heirs Elizabeth (his widow) Richard Sponsler, Jacob Sponsler, Andrew Sponsler, William Sponsler, Michael Sponsler, Henry Sponsler, and sisters - Sarah Sponsler Buffington, Marie Sponsler, Harriet Sponsler, Margaret Sponsler and Mrs. Thomas H. Brown (will lists Thomas H. Brown of Ashland County, OH), we do not know her relation to William, perhaps sister.
An entry shows property was sold by Jacob and Andrew along with Jacob's wife, Elizabeth, and Andrew's wife Katherine (later spelled with C) , all of Tusc. Richard and his wife Lucinda of Greene County Indiana, signed quit claim deeds on property formerly owned by William Sponsler.
Also the research shows a deed that was to satisfy Warrants for Military Services for the property left by William Sponsler. We are wondering if William Sponsler was in War of 1812.
We believe but cannot prove that William and Elizabeth were married in 1815 in Maryland and that her name was Sowers. This is from the Cacotin and Monocacy books about Frederick MD and nearby areas.
From previous research we know that Jacob (~1816) went to Defiance OH, Andrew (~1817) went to Sullivan IN, Sarah Sponsler Buffington Kennedy (~1819) stayed in Tusc, Richard (~1821 or 23) went to Greene IN, then later to Springfield, IL, William (~1824) went to Martin IN, Michael (1830) went to Martin, IN, Henry (~1835) went to Martin, IN, Harriet (~1837) may have gone to Martin, Margaret (~1840) we do not know and Marie we do not know birthyear or later movements.
Richard is buried in Oak Ridge cemetery.I have his photo.
Hope this helps. Will be glad to discuss more and share whatever we have.
