John and Margaret were married in Pike Co., MISSOURI in 1847 and shortly thereafter moved to Pike Co., IL. From 1850-1870 he owned land and farmed it with the help of his many children. Sometime between 1870 and 1880, he became a stone mason...interesting.
Anyway...I followed the family forward to the 1880 census and noted that his sister and brother were living with his family. I then tracked back the sister and brother to the 1850 census and found that they were living with their parents, Lewis and Martha Morris both from North Carolina. I then compared the birthplaces indicated on the census years and saw that both Thomas and John were born in KY, but their sister Mary was born in Indiana, 1832.
I used the 1830 census to locate the family in Rush, Indiana. I checked all the other Lewis Morris' in North Carolina and Kentucky and did NOT find one that fit the profile of Lewis' family as well as the Rush, Indiana did. I also checked the 1820 census and was unable to find the family. I suspect, they were probably on the move when the census was taken.
I did locate the family in Pike Co., Peno, Missouri in 1840 under the name Lewis Morriss living right next door to the Robert Cunningham family.
This should give you a good start in finding out more about your Morris ancestors. I hope you find the information helpful and I truly wish you the very best of luck with your continued research.
