Am looking for a cemetery lookup for WILLIAM WILLIAMSON. He died 24 SEPT 1866 in Chambersburg, Pike Co. IL. After years of searching, just found from old records of IL Soldier's and Sailor's Orphan's Home in Normal, IL. that William died on the above date in Chambersburg. This is the first time I have ever heard of the family being in this place. William m. Sarah Thornton (b. 15 APR 1837, ENG) in Edwardsville, Madison Co. IL on 23 JUNE 1858. Children were Lucinda/LuEllen/Aunt Nellie (1859, Alton, IL), William Albert (my grandfather--b. 20 SEPT 1860, Alton, IL), Orpha A. (b. OCT 1862 ?), and George Thomas (b. 1863-64 ?). Children show up in 1870 Mclean Co. IL census in the orphanage, later released to their mother, Sarah Thornton Williamson. Sarah and children stayed at Wapella, DeWitt Co. IL for many years, then removed to Bradford, Stark Co. IL after Sarah's marriage to John Harmon. Am trying to make a connection of the Williamson line in Pike Co. Believe that WILLIAM was born to William and Elizabeth Irvine (Irving) in Hamilton Co. OH. The 1860 Madison Co. census shows his birth as IL (abt 1832)--his CW record shows he was born in 1832--Hamilton Co. OH). Have much information on children and Sarah, but very little on my gr-gr grandfather, WILLIAM WILLIAMSON. He was with the 144th Alton Battalion during CW. I doubt if William and Sarah divorced as the children would not have been allowed to be placed in the orphan's home. I can't find a pension record for William. I am now curious about the middle name of my grandfather being ALBERT.
Thanks for any information.
