KINGSBURY 1850+, Ogle/Winnebago County
I have gone to Winnebago County, Illinois where my Addison KINGSBURY lived.
I have found from census records:
He was born in Vermont.
His father was born in Connecticut, his mother was born in New York.
He was in Canada in 1834 when his first child was born.
He was not in Winnebago County, Illinois in the 1840 Census.
He was in New Milford Township, Winnebago County, Illinois in the 1850 Census.
He was 42 at the time, born Vermont.
Married to Minerva (we know to be Minerva EDDY)who was 40, born Vermont.
They had children:
Leland 16 born Canada.
Henry 13 born Canada.(This would be the child who I am descended from).
Benjamin 11 born Canada.
Addison 9 born in Canada.
William 6 born in Canada.
Mary J. 4 born in Canada.
Syrus 1 born in Illinois.
So they had moved to Illinois between 1846 And 1849.
Minerva died in 1858.Could not find death or burial records.Did not find her grave.
Addison remarried 15 August 1858 and the marriage records did not list his parents.I was hoping that it would.
He married Elizabeth Horton MILLER widow of Elijah MILLER.I did find their graves in the New Milford Cemetery. She was buried with him and the stone read Elizabeth Horton MILLER.No mention of KINGSBURY.
By the 1860 census the two younger children, Mary J. KINGSBURY and Syrus KINGSBURY, were gone as well as their mother.
But there were two new KINGSBURY children too old to be from the second wife: Elizabeth was 47 born New York.
William was still at home, aged 16 born in Canada.
Amazia 7 born in Illinois.
Albert 5 born in Illinois.
There were three MILLER children:
Nancy J age 14 born Illinois.
Rhoda 11 born Illinois.
Cornelius 6 born Illinois.
Benjamin 21 born Canada was a Laborer on a VAN DUZEN Household.
My Henry was a laborer on a farm in the 1860 census in Ogle County which was neighboring to the New Milford Township of Winnebago County.
Dorcas BANKS is a servant in the household of a William KINGSBURY age 25 born in Canada. He is obviously not the son of Addison, he is still with Addison. So, we have another Kingsbury family who came to Illinois from Canada.
Henry KINGSBURY married Dorcus BANKS on 8 May 1861.
They are not to be found in the 1870 Census. They had their first children, Charles b. 1865, and Horatio b. 1867(my great grandfather) in Illinois, and their youngest Ernest, b. 1872 was born in Story County, Iowa.
In 1870 New Milford Township, Winnebago County, Illinois:
They have Addison as 46 born Vermont and "(can't wr)".
now Addison should be 61 or 62 depending on the time of year the census was taken. However this is his household with Elizabeth HORTON KINGSBURY, widow of Elijah MILLER, age 57 born New York.
Nancy 23 born Illinois.
Cornelius 16 born Illinois.
Angie 17 Born Illinois.
Albert 15 Born Illinois.
The children match up and the Addison at 47 would be too old to be Addison's son Addison. So, I assume the age to have been entered incorrectly.
1880 Census for Winnebago County, Illinois has
Addison 71 farmer born Vermont, father born Connecticut, and mother born New York.
Elizabeth 68 born New York and both parents born New York.
My family information has Addison dying in 1893 in Illinois.I could find no further information on his death or burial. It was not recorded in Winnebago County which could mean that it was neglected to be recored as I was told that it was still not consistently done by then; or, he could have died somewhere else.I did not get a chance to check in the neighboring County of Ogle.
I could not find anything on where Minerva EDDY KINGSBURY was buried. It is possible that they were buried in a family plot on their farm and at this time I have not checked on land records to pinpoint the location of the land they held.
Henry Kingsbury and his wife Dorcas Banks, and Leland Kingsbury and his wife Eunice Banks were all in Story County, Iowa in Iowa's 1895 Census.
Now, there were three families, Kingsbury, Banks, and Clothier who lived near each other in Winnebago/Ogle Counties of Illinois, married into each other and all listed birth places as Canada for various ones.
This is what I have now.I am looking for further information about these families.I would like to find someone from one of these families who might know something more about Addison and Minerva as well as where their other children went.
