Looking for information on my great-great-grandfather John Layton Carlisle. He lists Tennessee on the census and other records as his birth place, in 1839-1840, but the first official record of him was as a member of the 151st Infantry Company E from Hardin County, Illinois. While in Illinois, he married Martha Bryant, and Ann Trammell. He moved to Texas, where he married my great-great-grandmother Margaret Jane Wright. He died in 1913 in Hamilton County, Tennessee. There is one record where he lists North Carolina as his birthplace. Any clues would be very, very helpful.
