thanks for the info about death register for Illinois. I had checked it and came up with nothing also. My thought is that maybe the husband when he died was buried where he came from and Lucinda when she was ill was perhaps with other relatives who arranged for the children to be placed out. The Harm Cape name you provided could very well be Hiram of our family and the wife Minnie may have died in childbirth , hence no Minnie shows up later or maybe she left Hiram. It would be interesting to know her maiden name.
