Hi Melinda,
The James E. Dickson (Dixon) I have, was born in Posey County, Indiana. He married on August 5th 1875, at age 23, so he would have been born around 1852. This was his first marriage to a Mrs. Laura Jane Mobley, of White County, Illinois. Her maiden name was Blackford. She was 22 yrs. old when they married. Her marriage to James Edward Dickson was her 2nd marriage. On their marriage license they spelled the last name Dickson, but, later used the Dixon spelling. They did have a son by the name of 'Ed' This family wound up in the state of Arkansas. Jackson County, Arkansas. Their children were: (Doc) Arthur Thomas, Walter, Willie Edward, Minnie, Pauline, and Nellie. These were cousins to my mother. James Ed Dixon had a half sister, through Laura's next husband, (after the Dixon marriage) by the name of Francis Isabell, and her last name was Short. Laura married a William Short in Illinois, also. So, Francis Isabell was my grandmother. My mother was Anna Mae Miller, because Isabell married George W. Miller in Arkansas, in 1903, the year my mother was born.My grandmother was born in 1887, somewhere in the state of Illinois. I haven't found the whereabouts, as of yet. But, the Isabell Miller in the social security Death index, that has a birthdate closest to hers, from Illinois, shows she was born in Aurora, Dupage County, Illinois, which is on the outskirts of Chicago. So, since I do not know which part of Illinois my grandmother was born in, this could possibly be her. I do know that James Edward Dixon was named after his dad. After my great grandmother married to William Short, she went on to Arkansas and married Charles F. Kinney. She died in 1918, in Arkansas. I know very little about my grandfather William Short. I don't know if she remarried after his death, or if they divorced. They weren't married long. I hope I haven't made it too difficult for you to understand. Please let me know if you think there could be a connection.
