I am researching the our ancestor William LAEK. (Is this pronounced the same as LAKE??) Is this a variation of spelling of the LAKE surname??

All I know is our ancestor was born in 1855 in Germany, then at some point came to the USA settling in Champaign county,Illinois. He was a rice farmer and had a large rice plantation around 1900.

I can only find him, wife and children, on the 1900 Champagne Co., Illinois Census. His wife was Louise, and his children were named: Unnamed child (can't read on census,William,Charles,Emma,Marien,Otto,Otelia,Wilheim, and Martha. The unnamed child, and William were born in Germany, the rest of the children were born in Illinois in the years from 1884---1898.

I also would like to find a website devoted to LAEK and such. Any suggestions? Thankyou.
