James Orchard, b. about 1720 Scotland was Va. Colonial Soldier in Virginia Colonial Militia in 1757/58, where he was a sargent, from Bedford Co., Va. He bought land in 1757 and said he was "imported" from Scotland 12 years prior. (Urquhart clan from Scotland). He was in militia in *Va in 1757/58. His wife Eleanor ( ? ) also signs land records with him. He bought land in *Va that ended up being in Madison Co., Kentucky. This is land that his son - John Orchard, b. about 1740 ends up with and the land is sold when this John dies (about 1830). This John Orchards appears in the 1789 Madison Co, Ky. tax records & 1800 Madison Co, Ky, tax record. This John's wife was Agnes ( ? ) who is still living in 1795 Madison Co, Ky. They had a son - John Orchard, b. about 1784 Madison Co, Ky., who marries Anna (Park/Parks) 12 Nov 1815 Madison Co, Ky. They move to Cooperstown twp, Brown Co., Ill. in early 1830's. (ref: 1840 census). But John & Anna Orchard disappear after that. However, their children stay in Cooperstown, Brown Co, Ill and marry & raise families there. One of these was Julia Ann (Orchard) b. Aug 1827 in VINCINITY OF GEORGETOWN, MADISON CO., KY. and married twice in Brown Co., Ill.: #1 James P. Cox, he died. #2 Samuel Whited b. 1836 Bedford Co., Pennsylvania. They m. 31 Mar 1859. Family stories say he went to Pennsylvania, got rich in oil, changed his name, remarried & raised a 2nd family. He died White Bluff, Tennessee about 1902. (Ref: Julia filed for Civil War Widow's Benefit (union side) in 1907. But then she disappears. Samuel Whited & Julia had 3 children (in addition to her Cox children). The two girls died young, but Johnson David Whited, b. 1 Feb 1862 Cooperstown, Brown Co., Ill. lived on (to have a total of 19 children). He m. about 1883, but I have never been able to find the records. He died 17-2-1943 Rushville, Schuyler Co., Ill. His wife was Malissa Almina (Milton), Mitchell. She was b. Sep 1860 Cooperstown, Brown Co, Ill. She died 10 Aug 1905 at Lagrange, Cooperstown twp, Brown Co., Ill. and is buried Cooperstown Cem. (ref: death record). Johnson David Whited is buried Rushville City Cem, Rushville, Schuyler Co., Ill. Melissa was daughter of Thomas John Milton b. 1837, Morgan Co, Ill. married about 1859. Thomas Milton & Elmina ( ? ) lived Cooperstown twp, Brown Co, Ill. - but when he volunteered for the army his residence was Versailles, Brown Co., Ill. Civil War: (joined at Quincy), union side: Co H, 137th Inf (100 days service). Mustered out 24 Sep 1864 at Springfield. The Brown Co Cemetary book says he is buried Devina Henry Cem, Versailles, Brown Co., Ill. but gives no death date and I have been unable to find it. His wife, Elmina ( ? ) b. 1837 Ill. is with him in 1860 Cooperstown twp, Brown Co, Ill census. 1865 census shows her (but not him) but 4 children still living Cooperstown twp, Brown Co., Ill. By 1870 census, he is living with a different wife: Alice ( ? ) in Meridosia, Morgan Co and additional children. (He was a plasterer by trade). death date?,
Malissa Almina (Milton), b. Sept 1860 Cooperstown, Brown Co, Ill. married #1 George Alonzo Mitchell on 24 Nov 1877 Peoria, Peoria Co, Ill. They appear with his parents in the 1880 Peoria, Peoria Co., Ill. census. Alonzo died sometime after 1800 census till about 1803. Death date, place? Then she m. #2 Johnson David Whited (above given) about 1803, but I have been unable to find the record.Where? Date?
