Your best bet might be to check the 1880 census, which is online free at www.familysearch.org and at www.ancestry.org
Another option would be to order a copy of his death certificate, or whatever was available in 1886, which may provide his parents' names. You can order a copy of the death certificate through the Cook County Clerk's Office if he died in Cook County. There is a form you have to print out and mail in. The cost is about $10.

That would give you his age and date of birth also.
