Earl-
Thank you so very much for the information. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
If you don't mind me asking, where in the world did you locate the information on Orlando Tidd's police career? Certainly that information was not covered in the newspapers. Even the Riverside Police Department itself didn't have that information. They never heard of him...and certainly not as their Chief of Police however short his tenure.
In fact, that was one of the reasons I have been posting queries trying to locate information on Police Chief Tidd and Officer John Cappel of the Riverside P.D. I had been researching the death of Off. Fred Kuncl of the Berwyn, P.D. I finally ascertained how he died on April 26, 1920, but when I attempted to follow-up on the info with the Riverside P.D. they told me that had no records of either of the named Riverside officers (Tidd & Cappel). I was then in a position of showing that these officers had served on the Riverside P.D. at the time of the shooting. You have certainly accomplished that for me with the information you have supplied on Chief Orlando Tidd. I am still trying to do so with Officer Cappel. It appears he joined the force on 21 Jan 1920 (3 months before the shooting), but I really don't know what happened to him after the shooting. I know he turns up in the 1930 census working in the "building trades", but I am interested in what occurred to him after the shooting.....during the 1920's. Did he stay in police work?
The Tribune article you referenced isn't quite accurate (what a surprise!) in that they indicated Cappel was arrested and bound over for trial. In fact, he was NEVER arrested. That was specifically addressed at the Coroner's Inquest which was held the day after Kuncl died (April 27, 1920). When Cappel took the stand he was asked if he was under arrest and he responded "Not that I know of". The results of the Coroner's Inquest was that no one was held criminally responsible for Kuncl's death. No criminal trial of any type as ever held. But now I want to know what happened to Cappel after he was exonerated of any wrongdoing. Did he stay in Riverside? Was he fired by them?
Did he go to another municipality as a cop (as was the custom back then), etc.

In any case, thank you again for you assistance on this. It is GREATLY appreciated!
Paul
