MAUD FERN LUKE was born November 8, l884, in Odell Township, Illinois. Her life with the exception of the two years she lived in Iowa, was spent on a farm near Eylar. She became obedient to the Gospel and united with the Christian Church at Saunemin in l902 and since that time she has lived a consistent Christian life.

About one year ago she was voted a membership in the Saunemin Rebekah Lodge, No. 354 and hers is the first death to occur among its members since its organization nine years ago.

The deceased had been in failing health since last autumn, but was not considered seriously ill until Wednesday afternoon when she became dangerously ill. She steadily grew worse, suffering great agony until relieved by death at 6:30 o'clock Friday morning, March 25, l904, aged l9 years, 4 months and l7 days, at the home of her parents near Pontiac.

MAUD was of a cheerful, loving, happy disposition, always looking on the bright side, with always a pleasant word and sunny smile for those around her.

She visited her friends in Saunemin returning to her home in Pontiac just a week before the day of her death. The remains were brought to Saunemin Saturday and taken to the home of her grandparents, JASPER BACON.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the M.E. Church, Rev. Irwin assisted by Rev. Shaw having charge of the services. The Saunemin Rebekah Lodge took charge of the services at the grave. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in the Sunny Slope Cemetery. A large concourse of friends were in attendance to pay the last sad tribute of respect to one whom they all loved. The sorrowing relatives have the deep, heartfelt sympathy of everyone.

--PONTIAC, ILL., LEADER.
