Sunday evening, May 2l, l923, occurred the death of MRS. MARY A. HOLDEN, at the home of FRANK N. HANSELL in north Leon. MRS. HOLDEN was an old settler in this community. She was born near Canton, Ill., Sept. 8, l845, the child of JOHN D. and MATILDA MILLS. With her parents and brothers and sisters, she came to Leon when a small child and settled in Pleasanton for a short time, afterward moving to Leon where in l865, she was married to JOHN HOLDEN. They were not blessed with any children of their own but adopted and raised as their own, the son of a niece. He enlisted in the Spanish American War and died of typhoid fever in San Francisco, was brought back to Leon and buried in the family lot in Leon Cemetery.

Early in their married life, MRS. HOLDEN and her husband were converted to God, uniting with the New Salem Baptist Church. She continued in the Baptist fellowship there and in Leon until the time of her death.
Her parents, brothers and sisters have preceded her in death.

The funeral was held at the home of MR. HANSELL, Tuesday morning at l0 o'clock, Rev. J.E. Habliston of the Methodist Church, officiating. A quartet furnished music and the interment was in the family lot in Leon Cemetery.
