Shane,
Don't know much about Preemption Twp. or the town of Preemption either. Highway 67 runs right through the middle of the town and it is located about 10 miles south of Rock Island, IL.
Looking at the 1935 Mercer County directory, it appears the first settlers arrived in the Twp. in 1835. John Farlow and Hopkins Boone were two of the early ones. The 1st post office was called Farlow's Grove and was in the home of Hopkins Boone. When the town of Preemption was started, the P.O. was moved to there.
According to the 1935 directory, there were several Brennans living there at that time. Shows them living in 3 different homes, all in section 17 of Preemption Twp. The names are: Daniel and Ellen (Hayes) Brennan. John and Ada Mae (Nimrick) Brennan. and Miss Grace Brennan.
Scott
