O'Briens of McHenry County

John McGovern, b. ca 1852, Ireland, m. Margaret L. O'Brien (b. ca 1856, Illinois) 24 Nov 1875 in McHenry County, Illinois. In 1880 they lived in Minneapolis, MN, where John owned a restaurant. Richard O'Brien, age 19, born Illinois (ca 1861), brother-in-law, was working as a Clerk, possibly at John's establishment. John and Maggie McGovern (nee O'Brien) had a son William, age 3.

I checked the 1870 census for McHenry County, Illinois, and found the following in the town of Marengo:
Dw. 284/291
William O'Brien, age 46 (b. ca 1824), Stone Mason, b. IRE
Margaret, age 46, b. IRE
Margaret, age 15 (b. ca 1855), b. IL
Dennis, age 14 (b. ca 1856), b. IL
Richard, age 10 (b. ca 1860), b. IL
David, age 8 (b. ca 1862), b. IL

Dw. 9/10
Bridget O'Brien, age 75 (b. ca 1795), b. IRE

The family of William appears to be that of Margaret who married John McGovern and brother Richard of the 1880 Minneapolis census. There is a good possiblity that Bridget, age 75, is the mother, since no other O'Briens are living in Marengo at this time.

I had no luck tracing William and Margaret or their other children Dennis and David in earlier or later census records. I did find a Bridget O'Brien in an 1860 census, age 65 (b. ca 1795, Ireland) living with Thomas O'Brien, age 34 (b. ca 1826), his wife Mary, age 24 (b. ca 1836), and daughter Bridget, age 4 mo's, in Chicago, Illinos, Ward 5. Thomas was a laborer, he and Mary were both born in Ireland, and little Bridget was born in Illinois (ca 1860).

Thomas and Mary O'Brien may have been still living in Chicago's 8th Ward in 1870, but the elder Bridget is not living with him (is she the one now in Marengo in 1870?). The ages are off (there are wide discrepancies with DOB's in the census), but they do have a daughter Bridget, age 10 (b. ca 1860):

Dw. 2284/3593
Thomas O'Brien, age 38 (b. ca 1832), Laborer, b. IRE
Mary, age 36 (b. ca 1834), b. IRE
Children all born Illinois
Bridget, age 10 (b. ca 1860)
Michael, age 7 (b. ca 1863
Mary, age 4 (b. ca 1866)
Johnny, age 2 (b. ca 1868)
Joseph, age 1 (b. ca 1869)
Julia Evans, age 21, Boarding, b. Wisconsin
George Evens, age 2 mo's, b. Illinois in the month of May

Would love to hear from anyone who might know how these O'Briens connect, and how John McGovern may have met Margaret; I didn't find any McGoverns in Marengo, and don't know any of his family to be able to search in Illinois census.
