John Hughes: PA>IL>NE

I am stuck at a John Harry Hughes, born 1841 in Pennsylvania. In 1880, he appears as a farmer on the Quiver Township, Mason County, IL census, and is married to Georgia Taylor (b. Indiana). Some of their children were born in IL too, such as Cleggett (b. 1869) who is my g-g-grandfather. John H. Hughes appears on the 1900 census in Ord, Valley County, NE as a widower. His last child was born in 1882.

I don't know any specifics before 1880. I don't know where John lived in Pennslyvania or his parents' names. Any leads? I am fairly new to genealogy, but it's pretty hard to track a John Hughes in the 1800s.

Thanks!
