Regarding the Nuhn and Gumbel connections. I saw your submission on the LDS site. I am doing family tree research for a friend. She is descended from Conrad Nuhn, who moved to Wallace Township, Perth County, Ontario, Canada.
According to the Wallace history book, Conrad came to North America from Germany with his mother, Ann Margrethe, widow of Wilhelm Nuhn, and siblings Angelika, Anna, Elizabeth and Jacob. The book suggested that Conrad and his mother came to Canada while the other siblings remained in the USA. This seems like a match to me, except you had your Conrad dying in Georgia or someplace.
I have more information to share if you are interested.
