Stewart,
If you are still interested in more information on John Young and Elizabeth Taylor, this is what I have:
John Young married 26 March 1834 in Marion Co., IL to Ms. Eliza Taylor "Betsy".(John could possibly be son of James Young and Nancy Ware; and grandson of Samuel Young.)It is unknown to me when John died, but it had to be before 9 April 1847 when Mrs. Eliza Young married my ancestor George Washington Snodgrass in Marion Co., IL.Eliza died on 4 October 1899 in Salem, Marion, IL.I don't know who her parents were, sorry.
John Young and Eliza Taylor had three children who were living with Eliza and George Snodgrass in the 1850 Census of Marion Co., IL.They were:
1.William H. Young born about 1838 in IL
2.James Young born about 1840 in IL
3.Nancy Young born about 1842 in IL.
The children of Eliza Taylor Young and George Washington Snodgrass were:
1.Margaret Snodgrass born 16 Jan 1850 in Marion Co., IL. (MY ANCESTOR)She married John A. KAMP.
2.Robert W. Snodgrass born 30 June 1851 in Marion Co., IL.
3.John Young Snodgrass, blacksmith, born 11 April 1855 in Marion Co., IL. (Eliza must truly loved John Young to name her Snodgrass son after him - AND her Snodgrass husband must have been a VERY understanding man!)
4.Benjamin Allen Snodgrass born 30 April 1858 in Marion Co., IL.
IF John Young is the son of James Young and Nancy Ware then he would be a cousin to George Washington Snodgrass, whose parents were Robert Washington Snodgrass and Jane Young, the daughter of Samuel Young and sister to James Young who married Nancy Ware.Samuel and his family moved from Sumner Co., TN to Marion County, IL in 1813.Samuel Young is written about quite extensively in the "Brinkerhoff's History of Marion County, Illinois," published in 1919.It talks about the Young family, Robert Snodgrass, etc. Also, the Mormon Church Family History Center can help you order a microfilm #908,290 item 2 on the Family Record of John Henry Ware. This film item has lots of connections of the Youngs, Snodgrass, Ware, Daniels, and Albert families of Marion Co., IL.
An excerpt from pg. 117 of Brinkerhoff's:
"The first white man who selected Marion county as a spot on which to build a home was Samuel Young. The story of his life at this time reads like a romance. He was born and reared in Virginia, but migreated with his family to Tennessee, where he was blessed with a large family consisting of four girls and two boys. The eldest, Jane Young, married Robert Snodgrass, who was one of the company when the Young family moved to Marion county. . . ."
It goes on for a few pages, and has other entries about the family on other pages where it talks about the sons of Samuel being James Young and the youngest child Mathew Young.I am quite sure, although no REAL proof, that John Young is the son of James Young.
Oh, by the way, Samuel Young's Revolutionary War Pension states that he was born in Cumberland Co., PA, not Virginia.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Sandi
