Articles read online in the Edwardsville Intelligence mentioned that Constable Ohmer Hocket and John Balke bodies were found in a shallow grave by Horseshoe Lake, east of Madison - they believe Contable Hocket and John Balke were slain by bootleggers . 12/31/1926 (Year Review for 1926)
The date their bodies were found was listed for the date Feb. 5th.

Their death is mentioned again in a later article when a Prohibtion Officer, Ben G Finke was found guilty of bribery charges in the transportation of alcohol. In the article Officer Finke was said to be the one who found the bodies of Constable Hocket and John Balke who were presumably slain by liqour manufacturers when they visted a still along side of Horseshoe Lake. 1/30/1930

In an article date Jan. 6, 1938 - they are mentioned in the article on John Ginnola former Sicilian gang leader who died and had been once questioned in the murders of Contable Hocket and John Balke (both men had lived in Edwardsville)

Hope this has helped some.
