Thomas Shaw 3/12/04
In the January 1920 (Alton) census:
Arthur Shaw - 26
Carrie G. - Wife - 25
Robert E. - Son - 8
Ralph C. - Son - 5
Clara (? can't read) M. - Daughter - 3
Joseph - Son - 6 months
Arthur's occupation is listed as building painter. Both he and Carrie's parent's are born in Illinois.
In the 1930 census, Carrie is remarried to William Hand age 30, a self-employed carpenter and living in Godfrey, Madison County. The kids are listed as step children.Robert is a glass worker and Clara (?) is listed as "Marcella".
Also, in the 1930 census it has Carrie's parent's listed as born in Missouri.William Hand's age at first marriage 18 - Carrie's is listed as 16.They had a radio and owned their home, which was valued at $500.
There is a Carrie Hand listed in the Social Security Death Index that was born November 1, 1891 and died March 1986 in Kewanee, Henry, Illinois - SS# 327-56-1507
In the Edwardsville Intelligencer on June 20, 1924 there is a mention that "Joseph, Clara, Marcella, Robert and Ralph Shaw's guardian report is approved"
Clara and Marcella are listed separately!?
Can't find any mention of Carrie's maiden name or their marriage date...
Hope this helps!
