Yes, I think railroads had something to do with the settlement of Illinois: my wives relatives from NY ended up in Fayette County, IL in 1856, as far as I can tell settling on railroad land (I was in the settlement this summer and all that is left pretty much is the railroad track!) so it was a big attraction.

I'm not sure why this favors Kankakee County as a destination for Dearborn County migrations, unless perhaps it was a railroad nexus?
