Johnson Co. IL DNA project

There is a DNA project in place for any families that resided in Johnson Co. IL at any time.

Y-DNA can be tested for males to trace their surname lineage. Y-DNA is only passed on from father to son. Females do not carry Y-DNA.

MTDNA (mitochondrial DNA ) can be tested for males and females to trace the lineage of their mother. A mother can pass her MTDNA on to her daughters and sons. However, sons cannot pass the MTDNA on to their children.

If you have tested already for a surname Y-DNA project, you can also JOIN the Johnson Co. IL project. Many families passed through southern Illinois, especially at an early date. Family connections might have been lost. By testing for this project or cross-joining this county project, you might find lost cousins.

Please contace Connie McKenzie at lairdkinna@yahoo.com for further information.
